Dodalu: Single-player Kanban

Dodalu (doo-DUH-loo) is a simple "cards in columns" desktop app for keeping track of projects or organizing your thoughts. You can completely customize how it looks and works. All your data lives on your computer, so no server, no account, no usage limits. Your AI agents can reliably operate on your boards via MCP.

And it's all FREE... but not guilt-free. Yeah, it's nag-ware, but not super annoying. Kinda cute actually. You'll see. Just $20 ends the guilt trip.

Everything that’s in it.

Dodalu started simple. Then I started using it to work on it and it got fancy. I got more ideas, but what ideas do YOU have?

Start a board

Windows, Linux, and macOS

A real desktop app, with current public beta builds for all three.

Your boards, remembered

The welcome screen keeps a sortable catalog of recent boards so you can get back to work quickly.

A guided start

Choose a location, name, structure, look, and settings in the New Board wizard.

Quick or project-based

Keep a quick board on this computer or put one inside a new or existing project folder.

Bring a Trello board

Import lists, cards, labels, and checklists from a Trello JSON export (just add .json to your Trello URL and download it).

Make it yours

Stages that fit the work

Name, color, resize, collapse, and reorder stages instead of settling for somebody else’s workflow.

More than one look

Choose a built-in theme, board wallpaper, and colors for cards, selections, and buckets.

Cards with enough context

Add a title, summary, and colored tags without making every card into a form.

Markdown when you need it

Open a card’s document beside the board. Preview it, edit it in Dodalu, or use your usual editor.

Buckets inside stages

Group related cards one level deep without adding another stage or inventing a tag system.

Work the board

Search the useful parts

Search titles and summaries, and include card documents when you need to look deeper.

Filter with tags

Use colored project tags on cards, then filter the whole board or a single stage.

Archive without losing it

Move finished cards out of the way and restore them later. Permanent deletion stays optional.

Undo and redo

Back out board changes when a tidy-up goes sideways.

Move cards between boards

Cut, copy, paste, copy-to, or drag cards across open Dodalu windows.

Track effort, if that helps

Add estimates and work entries when a card needs more than a done-or-not-done answer.

Keep control

No account. No required cloud.

Dodalu’s board data stays on your computer unless you choose to sync the files yourself.

JSON boards, Markdown notes

Keep ordinary, inspectable files with the project instead of trapping the useful parts in a service.

Agents can use it too

Optional MCP lets Cursor, Claude Desktop, Codex, or Copilot create, update, and move cards.

Updates in the app

Windows and Linux builds can check the Dodalu release feed and update themselves.

Dodalu’s reminder robot

Free means every feature

Dodalu is nagware, not freemium. There is no premium tier or usage limit. Support it if it earns its keep and the reminder robot will leave you alone.

Developed on Windows and Ubuntu. Those are where I use it. macOS? No idea. Someone with a Mac tell me if it works!
